PERFORMANCE BIOGRAPHY

Charlie-Jade Jones is a skilled and versatile soprano, and interpreter of song. She recently starred in the European Premier of Marc Blitzstein’s Opera, No For An Answer, playing Gertie Phorylles at the Arcola Theatre as part of the Grimeborn Opera Festival and made her London solo recital debut at St Mary Le Strand.

Charlie-Jade is an alumna of the Royal Academy of Music and is due to graduate from the Royal College of Music with an MSc Performance Science in July 2024. On stage, Charlie-Jade made her professional debut with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra in Anything Goes - A 50th Anniversary Celebration of Cole Porter at Cadogan Hall and has since started to build a performance career blending the concert, musical theatre and opera platforms. Further work on stage includes the the 10th Anniversary of Howard Goodall’s Love Story at Cadogan Hall, the Opera Holland Park Valentines Gala Concert for Age UK, the Symphonic Premier of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s State Fair at Cadogan Hall, the 5* Immersive Revival of Jason Robert Brown’s Parade at Frogmore Papermill, Leonard Bernstein’s Candide for Bernstein At 100, and the Thursford Christmas Spectacular. 

Charlie-Jade performs regularly on the concert platform with recent highlights including Isn’t He Something: Celebrating Stephen Sondheim at The Chiswick Playhouse, and a performance Maury Yeston’s December Songs at The Shoreditch Treehouse. In the studio, Charlie-Jade has recorded session vocals for films and albums at venues including Abbey Road Studios, Angel Studios and The Mermaid Theatre for BBC Radio, as well as joining MasterVoices New York in their 2020 virtual production of Adam Guettel’s Myths and Hymns.

In 2020, Charlie-Jade debuted her solo show The Soprano Behind The Screen with musical director Connor Fogel. The show tells the story of American soprano Marni Nixon who is known to have been the singing voice for Deborah Kerr as Anna Leonowens in The King and I, Natalie Wood as Maria in West Side Story, and Audrey Hepburn as Eliza DooLittle in My Fair Lady. The show has since had successful performances in London, Essex and the Midlands, and was featured by Elaine Paige on her BBC Radio 2 show EP On Sunday. In 2021, she recorded her debut album Remember, which features selections from the Great American Songbook, with new arrangements by Luciano Williamson and a band led by Connor Fogel.

Charlie-Jade will made her 1901 Arts Club debut in Spring 2024 with her concert  Finding Home. She will be accompanied by pianist Tim Evans.

TEACHING, CONSULTANCY, RESEARCH AND OUTREACH

In addition to her work on-stage, Charlie-Jade is an experienced and sought after singing teacher and performance coach. She is currently completing an MSc Performance Science at the Royal College of Music where her key research areas are in performance psychology and performers health and well-being, with a particular focus on the link between mental health and vocal health, and intervention practices for optimising performers health and wellbeing. She holds a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music in Singing Teaching with Distinction, and a Certificate in Performance Coaching accredited by the British Psychological Society, and has completed observations in leading NHS voice clinics with specialist consultant laryngologists and speech and language therapists, as well as courses with voice specialists Janice Chapman and Dr Ron Morris. She is a singing teacher at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts where she works with BA Musical Theatre and BA Actor Musician students, and holds the position of Associate Tutor for Singing and Music at LAMDA where she creates and delivers the technical singing module for actors across BA, MA and MFA Courses. Charlie-Jade’s professional clients can be seen in productions such as EVITA (Leicester Curve), Beetlejuice (Norwegian Cruise Lines), and Sister Act (UK Tour). In addition, she is the founder and director of The Practice by Charlie-Jade, a voice and wellness training space for professional and semi-professional singers.

Charlie-Jade’s MSc Performance Science has equipped her with the knowledge to deliver lectures and seminars in a variety of topics surrounding performance psychology and performers health and well-being. Charlie-Jade can be contacted to work as a freelance consultant for performing arts organisations, or as a lecturer for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

As part of her MSc, Charlie-Jade’s research expanded into Arts In Health with a particular focus on Singing for those living with Dementia and their families, as well as singing and older adult loneliness. She worked with Wigmore Hall’s Singing With Friends project during her MSc and is a ‘Champion’ for the charity Music For Dementia. She regularly works in the words of outreach and participation, and has taken part in projects including the Age UK Valentine’s Gala with Opera Holland Park Inspire, and for a Lunchtime Schools Concert of Bernstein’s West Side Story with RCM Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Joana Carneiro with Royal College of Music Sparks. In addition, she has been a facilitator for projects for Key Club Arts at the Lyric Hammersmith working with 18-30 year olds with autism.
