BIOGRAPHY
Charlie-Jade is a singer, vocal pedagogue, and researcher whose career bridges artistic practice, teaching and performance science. Born in Warwickshire and raised between the UK and France, she trained in London at the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Musical Theatre, an MSc in Performance Science, and is currently a PhD candidate at the Centre for Performance Science, a collaboration between the Royal College of Music and Imperial College London supported by an RCM Doctoral Scholarship.
As a performer, she works across musical theatre, opera, concert performance, and new writing. Her professional debut was in Anything Goes – A 50th Anniversary of Cole Porter with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra at Cadogan Hall. Since then, her work has included Oklahoma! in Concert at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Friday Night is Music Night for BBC Radio 2, Candide for Bernstein at 100 at the Minack Theatre, The European Premiere of Blitzstein’s No For An Answer at the Arcola Theatre, and the acclaimed immersive revival of Parade at Frogmore Paper Mill. She is also the creator of The Soprano Behind The Screen, a solo show exploring the life of Marni Nixon, which was featured by Elaine Paige on BBC Radio 2 and a Founding Member of Leading Voices LDN. Critics have praised her “crystal clear voice” and “delicacy” of interpretation.
Alongside her stage work, Charlie-Jade collaborates with composers and orchestras, as a guest soprano and session vocalist, with recording credits including Abbey Road and Angel Studios. She is particularly drawn to collaborative, story-led work and the development of new projects.
Teaching forms a central part of her practice. She is Head of Singing at LAMDA and has previously taught at Arts Educational Schools, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, Laine Theatre Arts, and Emil Dale Academy. Through her private studio, The Practice by Charlie-Jade, she works with performers using an approach that integrates vocal science, psychology, physiology, and artistry. Her teaching focuses on helping performers develop technique that is healthy, expressive, sustainable, and authentically their own.
Her doctoral research explores health and wellbeing within the professional musical theatre industry, building on earlier work examining performer health experiences in UK drama school training. She regularly collaborates with specialist clinicians and undertakes observations within a leading NHS voice clinic. Beyond her teaching and research, she has facilitated workshops and outreach projects with organisations including Opera Holland Park, Wigmore Hall, Age UK, and Lyric Hammersmith Theatre.
Whether performing, teaching, or researching, Charlie-Jade is committed to helping performers build sustainable careers, deepen their artistic expression, and connect more fully with their voice and creativity.
