INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH FOR THE FLOURISHING PERFORMER

Charlie-Jade is a Doctoral Researcher at the Centre for Performance Science, a cross-institutional collaboration between the Royal College of Music and Imperial College London. Supported by an RCM Doctoral Scholarship, her PhD research investigates health within professional musical theatre, examining the industry through the multi-dimensional lenses of the performer, clinician, and production/creative team. This builds on her MSc in Performance Science (Distinction) which explored health experiences and perceptions within UK drama school training which is currently being prepared for publication.

Specialising in the intersection of psychological and physiological performer demands, Charlie-Jade is currently preparing to write about the cultivation of optimal learning environments for singing training in vocational actor education. Her work focuses on how holistic pedagogy can facilitate spaces for both student and teacher to flourish and on navigating vocal vulnerability to foster greater vocal agency. Her broader research background includes the impact of stress on psychogenic voice disorders and the historical evolution of breath pedagogy.

In addition to her research, she is an External Dissertation Supervisor for MPAA, where she has supervised projects spanning health, wellbeing, psychology, and sociology in the performing arts. She welcomes enquiries regarding undergraduate and postgraduate research supervision.
